The FRAXIS CO2 Fractional Laser System treats scars, wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin. This is achieved by micro-sized laser beams that, when puncturing the skin, cause a strong ablation effect and only mild thermal damage.
Fractional CO2 laser technology has allowed specialists to resurface the skin with a lower rate of complications than non-fractionated ablative laser treatment.
The spot size of the laser beam is only 100 microns. This means that while a number of holes may be made in the skin during a treatment session, the holes are so small they will quickly heal, particularly when surrounded by healthy tissue, and the entire treatment area will heal quickly. Patient recovery time is therefore substantially reduced and is much faster than more traditional laser resurfacing techniques.
Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing treatments stimulate regeneration of the important tissue structures that keep your skin firm, elastic, and healthy.
Please inform your therapist if you suffer from allergies to penicillin or lidocaine as some of our treatments require the use of numbing cream.
The use of numbing cream is a contraindication to pregnancy, therefore these treatments cannot be performed. Any broken skin or open wounds will prevent the use of numbing cream as well.

THE FRAXIS RESURFACING TREATMENT EXPERIENCE

Please avoid using any products that contain glycolic acids, retinol or retinoids, bleaching agents, and hydroquinone for one week prior to this procedure. These products can be resumed 2 weeks post-procedure.

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated approximately 30 minutes prior to ensure comfort during the procedure. The treatment itself will last between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated.
As the laser moves over your skin, you will feel a prickling sensation.

Immediately after the treatment, your skin may feel as if it has been sunburnt. This feeling of ‘heat sensation’ and/or itching usually disappears within 2 to 3 hours.
You will notice redness and swelling commence shortly after the treatment. However, it is safe to drive yourself home after the treatment.
The redness and swelling may persist for 24 hours or up to a few days depending on the intensity of the treatment and the condition treated. Your skin may appear ‘bronzed’ and red for up to 7 days and sometimes redness can remain for weeks. The duration of this will depend on the intensity of your treatment and the area treated (areas away from the face, such as the neck and décolletage, usually take longer to heal). A good mineral makeup is advised if an intensive treatment is required.
During the next stage, you may see the skin exfoliate (peel), as the dead cells are shed and replaced by new ones. Occasionally, patients might experience crusting or blistering in some areas, particularly if the treatment has been quite aggressive. After this ‘sloughing’ is complete, the redness will gradually resolve.
Most patients will begin to see some improvement after a few days as the collagen is remodelled in the deep layers of the skin. This process continues over several months after the treatment and this causes smoothing and tightening of the skin. If you elect to have a series of treatments, this gradual improvement can occur for up to a year.

Use the recommended moisturiser as often as needed
Avoid excessive exercise, sweating or swimming for one week
Avoid shaving of the treated area
Avoid all sun exposure
Avoid products with glycolic acids, retinol or retinoids, bleaching agents, and hydroquinone for 2 weeks.
You may resume your normal daily routine the day after your treatment. However, because of your reddened face, you may prefer not to be physically present in your workplace. You may wear concealer or foundation makeup 5-7 days after treatment.
